The Azamidani Species List

Here I have recorded all the creatures I have photographed or observed at the small pond at Azamidani, Mount Unzen, Shimabara Peninsula, Kyushu, Japan. I will continually update this list. The months in brackets are the months I have actually observed the species, however a species may be found in months other than what I have recorded depending on its habits. The list is in no particular order. NB: This list was begun in June 2010. Also, between mid-November 2010 and the beginning of March 2011, I didn’t visit the pond due as it was too disturbed by (student) hikers during the autumn colour season. In any case, during the winter months the pond is frozen and therefore not the magnet it usual is for birds wanting to bathe and drink.
